Beautiful Remains speculates on the transformative potential of the human skeleton, imagining how it might evolve in response to contemporary lifestyle habits, environmental shifts, and advancements in design. It considers morphological changes prompted by modern behaviors, such as the emergence of “tech neck” due to sedentary habits, dietary shifts influencing jaw and skull structure, and adaptations to climate, including enhanced sweat glands and expanded nostrils. Central to this exploration is the reimagining of bones as more than structural supports—envisioning them with enhanced strength, flexibility, and healing capabilities through intricate geometries like gyroids, Voronoi lattices, and octet-truss designs that merge lightness and durability.
Beyond the physical, this project delves into the emotional and vibrational resonance of bones, imagining them as living archives capable of documenting health, emotions, and experiences through visualized frequencies and vibrations inspired by cymatics. This concept frames bones not only as anatomical structures but also as vessels of memory and collective history, preserving the imprints of human evolution and shared heritage.
Using tools like Grasshopper and TouchDesigner, speculative models of bone interiors are crafted, blending aesthetic expression with functional innovation. This multidisciplinary approach bridges anatomy, design, and storytelling, presenting the skeleton as a dynamic, evolving entity—a site where science, emotion, and imagination converge to redefine what the body and bones can say about human emotions as well as physical medical history well beyond the grave.
